Deciding on a vaguely Mexican theme we stocked up on rum, tequila and cointreau among others.
First up we made an Old Cuban. To make one drink you will need:
- 1½ oz (1 measure) dark rum
- 2 oz Champagne/Prosecco
- ¾ oz lime juice
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 oz sugar
- 6 mint leaves
Make a simple sugar syrup, then in a mixing glass muddle lime juice and mint. Add rum, syrup and bitters, top with ice, and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and top with Champagne. Original recipe source here.
Next up we went for a Margarita.
To make one drink you will need:

- 1½ oz (1 measure) tequila
- ½ oz triple sec (Cointreau)
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- Salt to rim the glass (optional)
Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes and shake well. Salt the rim of a chilled margarita glass. Pour contents, with ice, into the glass. Original recipe source here.Last but not least, an Anejo Highball.
To make one drink you will need:
- 1½ oz (1 measure) dark rum
- ½ oz orange liqueur (Cointreau)
- ½ oz lime juice
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 2 oz ginger beer
Combine the rum, orange liqueur, lime juice and bitters in a highball glass filled with ice. Top with ginger beer. Original recipe source here.
I’m not going to pretend that we only had one of each of these, I mean we had to practice a few times right?!
The only question is, what cocktails to make next…?
