Sometimes that will just be staying in and making our own food, but this year we decided to go out.For some reason we always tend to go for steak on Valentine’s Day, and I’d heard good things about Garufa in Highbury, so with a bit of luck a few days before V day I managed to book us a table. With good steak comes good wine, and after a brief perusal of the wine menu we decided on La Mascota, a 2012 Malbec. Absolutely delicious – we both left with awkward and slightly embarrassing red-wine-lips by the end of our meal, but hey, who cares! It was worth looking like you’d chewed the end off a pen because it tasted so damn good.Food wise we decided on a shared grill – I mean holy moly, would you look at that!! ^^ A rib eye steak and a fillet steak, with melted provolone cheese, roasted peppers and aubergine, sausage and black pudding.Side wise we opted for some chips and some Traditional Humita –‘fresh sweet corn cream cooked with red peppers, white onions & basil’Frickin’ amazing.
The meal overall came to around £100, which is a little pricey, but y’know, it was Valentine’s so we pushed the boat out, plus everything was absolutely delicious and a good steak meal plus a bottle of wine isn’t going to come cheap.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have seen I posted a pic of my gifts from Nick…
I got him a personalised Nutella jar (you can find these in Selfridges) and Nutella recipe book and then some IPA beers from a little coffee shop in Fitzrovia called Ben’s House – a super hipster place selling all kinds of fancy hipster beers, coffees, sauces, chutneys and the like. Worth a visit if you like that kind of thing.
After our meal we headed home and cracked open the champers and cheese (because we hadn’t eaten enough already right?)
All in all a pretty damn good day – steak and wine followed by cheese and champagne – I could get used to this!
