Creating a Desk Space

2015-06-06 16.31.35I’ve been longing for a ‘blogging space’ for a while now. I’m going to lay the blame entirely on Pinterestall those damn pretty home office pins. The only space I could really make use of in our flat though was my dressing table, so I decided to give it dual purpose – dressing table & desk… Enter: The Dresk. (See what I did there?) 😉
2015-06-06 16.30.08In all honesty, it was definitely a ‘want’ not a ‘need’. Most of my blogging was done on the sofa and there was nothing particularly wrong with that, but I did think it would be nice to have somewhere to use with an actual chair and flat surface to work at! Plus it has proved really useful when making notes and jotting down blog post ideas – a flat surface has it’s uses, my friends!2015-06-06 16.38.44So here we have the full look. ^^ Make up on the left and desk on the right. I’d like to add a couple more pretty pics to the desk side, but other than that I think it’s pretty much there.2015-06-06 16.35.02I did a post a long time ago on my dressing table set up, so you can have a look at that to see how it’s changed.2015-06-06 16.35.52Of course, with a desk comes stationary… I did a post last week on my Paperchase Haul which shows all the little bits and bobs I picked up – I just couldn’t resist, you guys!2015-06-06 16.33.39I seem to have quite the collection of notebooks, so I’ve banned myself from buying any more until I start using some of them up!2015-06-06 16.35.28I had a huge sort out of the entire dressing table – there were so many products and things that I didn’t use, it was getting a bit ridiculous. You can see below what it looked like before…drawer editedA bit of a nightmare in there really..! ^^2015-06-06 16.44.51I have since managed to cut down the beauty/hair products by 2/5. (Everything is sectioned off by old Glossyboxes, and I managed to get rid of two out of five – not too bad!) I now use the space for additional desk bits.2015-06-06 16.45.23Told you I had a lot of notebooks! ^^2015-06-06 16.45.36And the beauty side is a lot tidier too – I gave the whole thing a hoover, there was so much of my hair in there…! *hides face*2015-06-06 16.46.23I couldn’t go without mentioning this. ^^ I’m totally obsessed with the use of Command hooks – they are so damn handy for so many things. I decided to pop one on the side of my dressing table to hang up my straighteners – how nifty is that?! They don’t take up space on the top any more (apart from when I’m using them of course) and it just makes everything look so much neater!2015-06-06 16.34.47I’m so chuffed with the space I’ve created – truly dual purpose!
What do you think?

  • “Dresk” – love it 🙂

We’ve just bought a brand new 3 bed house and one of the spare rooms is going to be an office! I am too excited about this! Unfortunately due to me “needing” a blogging desk I can’t agree on how to decorate it with my boyfriend so we’re going to be getting a desk each for the room – we’re like kids!!

    • Haha! I’m sure I would have the same issue with my boyfriend – don’t think he’d appreciate all the pretty pictures and accessories – 2 desks sounds like a good plan! 🙂

  • Love the command hook idea – so simple. I use straighteners everyday and no one has time to pack them up and get them out each time and it annoys me that they lie on the surface. This is such an obvious solution – thanks for the tip!

  • An inspired mash up! Can I ask where you got the gold leaf dish from? Love it.
(also, I’ll confess that my hair always congregates in my dressing table- I’m surprised I have so much left on my head I seem to malt so much!)

    • Thanks Kath! I actually got it from a little interiors shop/cafe called ‘The Loft’ in Perth when I was in Scotland last month! (Probably not hugely useful for you though – sorry!)
Ah I’m glad I’m not the only one that malts everywhere – my hoover head is totally full of my hair!

  • I love your “dresk”! I am in love with white desks – I just got one a few months ago and I am so happy I purchased it. I love command hooks too. I use one near the playstation and TV so that my husband can hang his headphones. 😛
